Melissa Hurst is the new director for graduate career development. This is a new position, funded with the help of the Office of the Vice President for Research. Melissa is in her new office in Randall Hall and she has overhauled the GSAS website devoted to placement and career services. Here is the link: http://artsandsciences.virginia.edu/gradschoolcareer/ which I’ve also added to the permanent links on the right.
I met with Melissa a few weeks ago, and she mentioned that she is already holding office hours for anyone interested in speaking with her. She plans to upload some videos to the site for frequently asked questions about CV preparation, job interviewing, etc…. We also agreed that she could help ARAH students strategically prepare and apply for jobs outside of Academia and the Museum world for those who may be interested. I’d encourage everyone at the ABD stage to meet with her at some point.
